LIHU‘E (September 10, 2012)—The 13th annual Kaua‘i Community Federal Credit Union (KCFCU) Charity Golf Tournament held on Saturday, September 8th at the Puakea Golf Course raised $35,000 for pediatric programs and services on Kaua‘i through the Kapiolani Children’s Miracle Network “Credit Unions for Kids” program. 100 percent of every donation will be directed to pediatric programs and services supporting hospitalized keiki and their families treated at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Since its inception the event has raised over $240,000.
“We are so pleased to be able to present a gift of which every dollar will stay on Kaua‘i for our hospitalized children,” said Mel Chiba, President/CEO of KCFCU. We’ve seen the miracles that take place every day, right here at home and how our keiki receive the best care possible at Wilcox Hospital. This golf tournament is more than just a fun day on the links, it’s our chance to support a long tradition of excellence in children’s health care on Kaua‘i.”
Kathy Clark, president & CEO of Wilcox Memorial Hospital, said, “The children of Kaua‘i and Wilcox Memorial Hospital are so very fortunate to have the support of KCFCU and the Children’s Miracle Network Credit Unions for Kids program. Each year Wilcox has put the money to good use and most recently purchased a cardiac monitor and three infant warmers used to keep newborns body temperature stable after birth. With the annual support of KCFCU, Credit Unions for Kids program and the many generous event supporters and sponsors, we have also purchased continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) equipment that allows us to keep the smallest newborns with breathing difficulties here on Kaua‘i with their parents, as well as three additional monitors that measure oxygen levels in the blood of babies and children.”
