Maurice J. “Sully” Sullivan founded the Hawai‘i Rotary Youth Foundation in 1976 to help Hawai‘i’s high school graduates realize their potential through education, according to a news release.

Sullivan was the Rotary District Governor in Hawai‘i for 1976-1977. He had the desire to serve his community and created HRYF with the vision that it could help teach young people about America’s free enterprise system and fill a need in the community.

HRYF Scholarships would not be possible without the support of Rotarians and community-minded individuals. Because of this tremendous support, the HRYF Website has been refurbished to provide updates to the community along with a convenient and safe Donation Portal at

Since its incorporation, HRYF has awarded 1,800 scholarships with a total value of more than $6.5 million. This year, 24 neighbor island students from public and private schools were chosen as recipients, as well as another 26 from the island of O‘ahu. The total awarded amount for the year was $260,000.
