James Baldwin, an African American writer and intellectual in the racist 1950’s and 60’s, never finished his manuscript about his good friends Medgar Evers, Malcom X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., all felled by an assasin’s bullet. This documentary film. an Academy Award nominee, narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, fulfills that mission. From the Wall Street Journal; “The film is unsparing as history and enthralling as biography. It’s an evocation of a passionate soul in a tumultuous era, a film that uses Baldwin’s spoken words, and his notes for an unfinished book, to illuminate the struggle for human rights.”

Opening with Kaua`i singer songwriter Blu Dux. Kauai’s Peace Poet Laureate Kimie Sadoyama will share verse.

This is a free event. Light refreshments to be served.
