“Give Peace a Chance” is a Kauai Spoken Word show produced by Laura Lentz, host of writing workshops on Kauai, editor and author.   The show is being held at The Church of the Pacific in Princeville on March 18th at 7:00 p.m.  Inspiration for the spoken word event came out of her weekly writing workshop. Lentz decided to use music for writing inspiration.

“One week war songs were played to our writers – beginning with a German march song and ending with a Vietnam protest song.  At the end, everyone was singing and crying,”  Lentz said, “I hadn’t produced a spoken word show in three years,  but I knew what came out of these writers needed to be heard by a larger audience”.

Larry Tadlock, writer and comedian is flying in from Los Angeles to host the show.  Lentz said one of her performers wrote an outstanding piece about the Holocaust – a story her family had mostly kept a secret until now. Her 92 year old father was finally ready to share details of his WWII experience. Other writers have written about wars on the intersections of streets in America, draft dodging, why women should never be in combat and trying to take the sorrow out of Vietnam vets.

“All the pieces aren’t heavy,” Lentz said.  “We have writers writing hilarious pieces about love, cooking and finding peace.” Fifteen performers will be onstage and ready to touch Kauai with their exceptional stories.  Raffles at the event for all attendees will include free prizes, such as dinner for two out on the town, donated artwork and yoga passes.

Guests to the show should come dressed for peace and love, whatever that means to each person!  Tickets are available on Brown Paper Tickets and through a link on Lentz’ website
