Arbor Day on Kaua‘i
Saturday, November 7, 2015
9 a.m. – Noon (or until all plants are given away)
The public is encouraged to come early! There are a limited number of each species to ensure a variety of plants to suit many areas and uses, so those present when the gates open get the widest selection of plants. It’s first come, first served.
Nearly 1,200 plants will be distributed at the event, including puakenikeni and the ‘ulu fiti breadfruit cultivar provided by the Garden. Other plants include ‘ohia, wiliwili, and alolo, as well as various flowering trees. Free compost and fertilizer will be available to support those who will be outplanting in their yards.
In addition to the plant giveaway, there will be educational booths (stop by NTBG’s!) where attendees can learn more about the plants they have selected and about the work being done by a variety of local conservation organizations. By “talking story” with these conservationists, attendees can earn stamps that will entitle them to additional free trees.
There will also be a keiki area, where kids (and those young at heart) can get their hands dirty and learn about plants.
