Everybody is invited to celebrate Kauai’s International Day of Peace at Lydgate Park on Sunday, September 17, 2017, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., sponsored by the Interfaith Roundtable of Kauai (IROK).

Centered at Lydgate Park Main Pavilion (near Kamalani Playground), the Peace Day program will feature slack-key performing artist Cindy Combs, non-violent communication skills taught by Isa Maria; activities for children of all ages; a puppet show, a message from the United States Representative Tulsi Gabbard, refreshments and more, culminating in multi-cultural prayers and a dove release at 3:45. The event is free.

The International Day of Peace was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 2001. In 2007, Hawaii became the first state in the nation to officially commemorate Peace Day in harmony with the UN resolution. IROK has sponsored an annual celebration of peace every year since.  The international theme for this event is “Pathways for Peace: Respect, Safety & Dignity for All.”

IROK was formed in 2005 to bring together representatives of all religions to encourage harmony, understanding, and community service from an interfaith cooperative stance. For more information about the Lydgate Park Peace gathering contact Jeffrey Pears at 634-9992or through the Interfaith Roundtable of Kauai website www.interfaithroundtableofkauai.org.

If you need an ASL Interpreter, materials in an alternate format, or other auxiliary aid support, contact Pears at least seven calendar days before the event.
