In 2010, the Legislature established a new training requirements for guards in HRS Chapter 462. See, Act 208 (SLH 2010). Effectively July 1, 2013, new HRS section 463-10.5(a) requires all guards, and all agents, operatives, and assistants employed by a guard agency, private business entity, or government agency who act in a guard capacity to register with the Board of Private Detectives and Guards and meet certain training requirements prior to acting as a guard.
OCET will be offering the mandatory 8-hour training, as required by DCCA to meet the legislative requirements, using certified trainers. Instructors: Miles Tanabe, Wes Kaui, and Danilo Abadilla are all retired from the Kauai Police Department and have met all the requirements as stated by DCCA including the train-the-trainer Certification training.
This class is only one part of the process of receiving the Guard Card. For more information on requirements, go to the DCCA website and connect to Private Guards.
