HPR presents an evening of readings of local literature by the actors from the hit radio show “Aloha Shorts,” hosted by HPR Arts and Culture Reporter Noe Tanigawa, and featuring a Kauai musician.
Co-produced by Bamboo Ridge Press and Hawai‘i Public Radio, “Aloha Shorts” was Hawaiʻi’s version of the nationally syndicated public radio program “Selected Shorts.” “Aloha Shorts” went off the air six years ago — but has not been forgotten. Audiences still remember hearing some of Hawai‘i’s finest writers, actors, and musicians coming together in celebration of local literature. The recently published collection “The Best of Aloha Shorts” (Bamboo Ridge, May 2017) brings together more than thirty poems and stories from the program’s peak years, pieces not only excellent unto themselves, but also outstanding in performance.
After the sold-out performance and standing ovations at last summer’s “The Best of Aloha Shorts – Live!” on Oʻahu, HPR decided to tour the show to the Neighbor Islands in order to share the fun and the magic.
