If you or a close friend or relative is living with an autoimmune disease, and you are interested in knowing more about such diseases, the Sjögren’s and Lupus Foundation of Hawai‘i is offering the free Sjögren’s & Lupus Education Event at Wilcox Medical Center July 13.
In March, the foundation hosted a patient education event, like a health fair, on Kaua‘i for the first time. In July they will be hosting their first autoimmune support groups.
Guest speaker Rose Tatiana Warken Ceballos is the founder of the Passionate Living: A Healthy, Organic & Peaceful Life, which helps people of all ages to live a more vibrant, authentic life. She will be sharing passionate words, healthy recipes and a brief demonstration of gentle relaxation exercises for mind, body and soul.
The Sjögren’s and Lupus Foundation of Hawai‘i is dedicated to meeting the needs of those living with autoimmune diseases on all islands. The overall goal is to provide education, support and resources for those living with Sjögren’s syndrome and Lupus and to raise awareness to help those with Sjögren’s syndrome and Lupus to live life to the fullest one day at a time, according to news release from the foundation.
Dr. April Lewis, OD, FAAO, is a Kaua‘i resident living with Sjögren’s syndrome, and as a local healthcare provider, she is on the medical advisory council of the foundation. She said she wants to get the word out to Kaua‘i’s community, especially the underserved population living with autoimmune disease.
The president and founder of the foundation, Melaca Cannella, also lives with autoimmune disease. She started the foundation to help others to cope with the diseases. She has touched the hearts of many on O‘ahu through her foundation, including her patient education conferences like this one.
Lewis have educated on eye care in autoimmune diseases at both O‘ahu and Kaua‘i events, and she said the feedback from patients who are excited to learn how to manage their health is overwhelming. She is excited to share another Kaua‘i event.
The Sjögren’s & Lupus Education Event is at Conference Room A at Wilcox Medical Center at 3-3420 Kuhio Hwy. on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
