Kupono Komohana is hosting the Aloha Aina Celebration today in Kekaha Small Boat Harbor on Kaua‘i’s Westside, from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Love for our land, water and ocean! Celebrate our aloha for our community, natural resources and the value for self-sust-‘AINAbility,” the event’s promotion states.
This is the second annual event, organized by Kupono Komohana, a group of young Westside residents and their families. Aloha ‘Aina organizers said last year’s event was an “overwhelming success and hopefully this year will be even better.”
“Of all the projects and community groups doing work on Kaua‘i towards a healthy community and sustainable future, this is the one that has made the most impact and that I am most proud of,” organizers wrote in an email.
The event kicks off at 10:30 a.m., with the blowing of the pu at Kekaha Harbor Stand. Kupuna will be honored and there will be some mo‘olelo of the harbor.
A pule at 11 a.m. will be followed by a seed exchange until noon.
From then on, entertainment begins.
There will be performances by Halau Lei Mokihana o Leina‘ala, Cruz Control, Liko Martin and Friends, Tripple T’s, and AOWL and Friends.
Throughout the day, there will be a poi eating contest, ‘aina friendly vendors and crafts, healthy food, makahiki games, Aloha ‘Aina Art Contest and kalo pounding.
The event will be over at 6 p.m.
