The County of Kaua‘i is advising the public that the Hanalei refuse transfer station will not accept loose mixed waste starting on Monday, July 23, due to planned equipment repairs.

Only bagged trash will be accepted until further notice while equipment repairs are underway, according to a county news release.

All other recycling services will not be affected including green waste, scrap metals, appliances, propane tanks, used tires, residential recycling drop bins, and residential used motor oil and motor oil filters.

County officials are also reminding that refuse collection services for residents affected by the April flood in the Wainiha and Hā‘ena area will continue through July 31.

The Solid Waste division will continue to provide the following services:

  • Refuse collection services will continue on Sundays. Refuse collectors will accept bagged trash as well as trash in carts set at the county right of way in front of all households.
  • A solid waste staging area at Kepuhi Point will be open to residents and businesses for drop-off of source-separated waste, including bulky items, green waste, tires, metals, white goods, and propane tanks.

The Solid Waste Division encourages residents to utilize the Hanalei Transfer Station if possible, including the residential recycling bins. For more information, call the Solid Waste Division at 241-4841.
