The 13th Annual Pilgrimage of Compassion held on October 6th, was a milestone in the history of Lawai International Center, a community-supported sanctuary fueled by gratitude and commitment. Under clear skies and after 23 years of preparation, the extraordinary Hall of Compassion was unveiled to uplift the world and to remain standing for minimum of 1,000 years.
On this day, more than 700 people walked along the path of 88 shrines built by Koloa plantation workers more than 100 years ago. Shakuhachi music wafted through the air as Grandmaster Riley Lee played his shakuhachi. The rarely seen children of Ni’ihau danced. The dynamic drums of Taiko Kaua’i sent their powerful rhythms aloft on the winds. Energy, light and spirit lit up the faces of the young and old as they opened their hearts and sent their silent aloha to the far corners of the world.
Mahalo nui loa to the over 1,200 dedicated volunteers, supporters, businesses and many others for creating the Hall of Compassion, Pilgrimage and believing in miracles.
