Kaua‘i RSVP, an organization that’s part of the Agency on Elderly Affairs, announced today the kick-off of a school supplies collection drive for students in need at Waimea Canyon Middle School.

Among the items being collected are two- and three-inch binders, two pocket dividers, and regular size Expo markers in any color for dry erase boards.
“According to the school, these are the items that the students can really use,” said RSVP Director Celia Melchor-Questin. “Contributions toward this effort would be greatly appreciated.”
The supplies can be dropped off Monday to Friday from8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Agency on Elderly Affairs located at the Līhu‘e Civic Center, Pi‘ikoi Building, Suite 330. The deadline is Jan. 22.
Additionally, donations toward this effort will be collected at the Līhu‘e Neighborhood Center on Monday, Jan. 18from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Other drop off points include Kmart and Times Supermarket in Līhu‘e on two consecutive Saturdays,Jan. 16 and Jan. 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The collected items will be sorted into boxes on Jan. 25by Kaua‘i RSVP volunteers and picked up by Waimea Canyon Middle School representatives for distribution to their students.
The collection drive is part of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, which honors Dr. King’s memory with service to others, particularly those most in need. The goal of the nationally recognized Day of Service is to transform Dr. King’s life and teachings into community service that helps empower and strengthen local communities. As Dr. King himself said, “Life’s most urgent and persistent question is: What are you doing for others?”
