Nominations are open for candidates for three positions on the Board of Directors of Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC).

Board candidates must be members in good standing. Candidates may be placed on the election ballot two ways, through nomination by the board’s Nominating Committee or by petition.

The chairperson of the Nominating Committee is KIUC Director Peter Yukimura. Other members are Trinette Kaui, Alfred Laureta and Michael Murakoshi. The committee will review applications from prospective candidates and will recommend nominees for the election ballot.

Members who wish to be considered by the Nominating Committee should submit a letter of interest, application and an Authority to Release Information form by Jan. 5, 2015 addressed to KIUC Nominating Committee, 4463 Paheʻe Street, Suite 1, Līhuʻe, HI 96766-2000.

The Committee is looking for members who have past experience serving on the boards of community, non-profit or government organizations and those willing to accept the responsibilities and obligations of a director, which include taking the time necessary to prepare for, attend and take an active part in board meetings.

KIUC members may also be nominated by collecting 35 signatures of other members (electric account holders) in good standing and by submitting a completed member petition to the Nominating Committee no later than Feb. 2, 2015.

All potential candidates, including incumbents and those nominated by petition, are required to complete an application, to sign the Authority to Release Information Form and attend an orientation on the duties of a director.

A director is one of nine elected representatives of the members of KIUC. The Board of Directors governs the business of KIUC and sets the strategic direction and policies of the cooperative.

Details on the requirements of directors can be found under Board Policy 18 on the KIUC website.
