New Civil Defense sirens to be included in monthly test

The Kaua‘i Civil Defense Agency would like to advise the public that eight new Kaua‘i outdoor warning sirens will be activated during the statewide monthly siren test on Aug. 3.

Seven of these are in areas that were previously without coverage, while one of the new units replaces an older siren.

Residents, businesses and visitors in the following areas on Monday will likely hear the sirens sounding during the 11:45 a.m. test:
•             Wailua Houselots Park
•             Wailua Golf Course (south end)
•             Hanamā‘ulu Beach Park
•             Puhi
•             Kōloa Town
•             Po‘ipū Beach Park (upgraded unit replacing older siren)
•             Halēwili Road
•             Kalawai Park

“Although these sirens have yet to be acceptance-tested by our partners at the Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency, in the interest of public safety, we would like to include them in the upcoming test by the Kaua‘i Civil Defense Agency,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr.

Formal acceptance testing of the new sirens plus an additional one in Kekaha will follow in the weeks ahead. An announcement of the testing will be made through state and county news releases.
