Closer – Kauai Community Players’ Production

Tickets are now on sale for the opening production of Kauai Community Players’ 2014 season.  We are proud to present CLOSER by Patrick Marber and directed for KCP by Faith Harding with a cast of exceptional young actors.  Faith is well-known to Kauai audiences as an actress and also as the director of Sam Shepherd’s True West. CLOSER is adult fare with explicit sexual themes and language, and is not appropriate for audiences under the age of 16.  CLOSER is the winner of the 1998 Olivier Award for Best Play and the 1999 New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Play.  Newsweek Magazine calls it “…a powerful, darkly funny play about the cosmic collision between the sun of love and the comet of desire.”

The cast of CLOSER: Bailey Hutton, Brooke Morgan, Faith Harding (Director), Shauna Griffin (Assistant Director), Jacqueline Eldin, and Benny Bartlett

CLOSER is an elaborate character study of two London couples as they engage in an ultimate game of partner swapping. The plot revolves around the infatuation of the couples for one another. Ultimately, each ends up with the partner for whom they are best suited; but has their desire to win at the game of love diminished their capacity to love and to enjoy its fruits?

Harding says, “I love the desire/betrayal aspect of this show along with the biting, dry wit of British humor. The combination makes for some extremely well written characters.  It is something that we can all relate to…either we recognize this in ourselves without admitting it out loud or have vicariously lived it through someone we know.  It’s a sexy, smart, titillating show!!!”

CLOSER will open on Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Puhi Theatrical Warehouse and play for three weekends, Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 4pm.  There will be a “Pay What You Can” Preview on Thursday, January 9 at 7pm.  On Friday, Opening Night, there will be a reception after the performance with the director and actors.  Refreshments will be served.

Tickets are $20 with $5 off opening weekend and discounts for KCP members, seniors, and students.  Go to www.kauaicommunityplayers.org for tickets and information, or call 800-838-3006.
