Construction work on Rice Street ongoing through January 2020

The Department of Public Works and Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. are announcing that Rice Street construction for the Līhu‘e Town Core Mobility and Revitalization project is ongoing through January 2020. Two-way traffic will be maintained through all phases of construction.

The current construction on Rice Street is Phase 1A, between Haleko Road and Kalena Street, eastbound, on weekdays, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., through July 30, 2019, weather pending. The scope of work for Rice Street Phase 1A construction consists of demolition and construction of road, sidewalk, driveways, and landscaping.

Dates of construction for future phases of the project are as follows, weather pending:

· Rice Street Phase 1B: Rice Street, between Kalena Street to Ho‘olako Street, eastbound, July 15 to Sept. 15;

· Rice Street Phase 1C: Rice Street, between Ho’olako Street to Kalena Street, westbound, Sept. 15 to Nov. 15; and

· Rice Street Phase 1D: Rice Street, between Kalena Street to Haleko Road, westbound, Nov. 15 to Jan. 15, 2020.

Work on Rice Street between Haleko Road and Ho‘olako Street will continue through the end of 2019. Additionally, construction continues for the Civic Center to Convention Hall shared use path and Eiwa Street between Hardy Street and Rice Street.

Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time when driving near the work areas, use alternate routes, and to observe and follow all construction traffic controls. Please exercise caution when commuting through the work areas.
